How do I choose a chain length?
Lakehurst holds roller chain stock in pitches and may offer specific lengths or boxes as Encore selling options.
Why it matters
The supply option, number of separate lengths and end arrangement affect the quotation.
How to identify it
- Specify the required pitch count or exact named length option, plus the number of separate pieces.
- For a cut length, describe the required ends and any joining arrangement; include a drawing or photograph if unsure.
- For example, Lakehurst has confirmed that a cut of 117 pitches with both ends on inners uses an extra pitch when cut, so that example is priced with 118 pitches.
- Check the quoted supply unit, allowance and any separate links before ordering.
Units
State pitches, metres, feet or the named Encore option explicitly. Quantity of pieces is separate from length per piece.
Common mistakes
Do not assume all cuts need one extra pitch, that a box price is a per-pitch price, or that metres and feet share the same price multiplier.
Not sure?
Use the enquiry form to describe the length and ends required. Lakehurst can confirm the selling option and cutting allowance.

In the past 50 years as more manufacturers have entered the market, Roller Chains have developed into two main categories. Chains that Conform to International renown Standards such ISO or Din or ANSI standards offering continuity in Quality and Specification with the added benefit of interchangeability across brands, and alternatively manufacture's own Works Standard Chains which may have some dimensions and characteristics the same, but will have some variation from the ISO specification and are therefore not interchangeable.
The key to providing both Product reliability and Customer satisfaction is matching the correct Quality to suit the customers application requirements, hence the company stocks and supplies a combined range of Roller Chains from around the World so that it is independant of any one brand and therefore free to match the Best Quality to suit the application at the most Competitive price.
